Amherst Summer Musical Theater since 1969

An Open Letter to the Sandstone Community

Open letter to the Sandstone Community…

After five years of dedicated service, our Producer / Chairperson is stepping down. Sue Druga has done so much to keep this program going and growing; her contributions to all three troupes has been exceptional! As a past producer, I know what dedication is required and Sue has demonstrated that time and time again. Although she’ll continue to assist with future programs, she will be missed as our leader.

At the same time, our treasurer, Chris Favre, is also stepping down, again, after years of service keeping our suppliers and employees paid, filing appropriate tax returns and managing our funds that let us continue year after year.

For the past few years, the board has struggled with keeping active board members. ***That’s the true purpose of this post***.

Participants! If you are over 21, please consider becoming a board member. If you are not, perhaps one of your parents would like a voice. If you know anyone interested in community theater in Amherst, please spread the word. The time commitment throughout the year is nominal – usually meeting on a monthly basis, but not every month.

Sandstone Summer Theater needs Actors, Musicians, Stagehands, Technicians, Directors, Patrons and Sponsors; and a Board of Directors to coordiante and organize all these things. This is how we continue to produce great productions like All Shook Up, Alice in Wonderland Jr., and Pied Piper, the Musical.

This is an open plea to locate people willing to serve on the board of directors. If you, or someone you know, wants to become more involved in the organizational aspects of theater, please contact a current board member or email me directly at Swen0459@gmail.com. Also, if you have any questions, I’ll be happy to get answers for you.

We Need a Motorcycle and a Boat

Tuesday, July 5, 2011 posted by admin 9:17 pm

Sandstone Summer Theater is in need of a classic-looking 50′s style motorcycle, 450 ccs or less. It doesn’t have to run, it just has to be pushed on stage. If you have a lead on this or on the front of a rowboat or a canoe, please contact Sue Druga at Rdruga@oh.rr.com.

We will be using these items in our production of all shook up, which starts July 21, so the sooner we get them, the better!

UPDATE: The lovely Annie Jurczyk let me know that it is illegal to have a combustible engine on stage. Just a heads up to the techies. We may need a work around.

Just a last minute reminder…

SST auditions for their summer production, All Shook Up, are Thursday June 9 and Friday June 10 from 6:30 to 9:30. All Shook Up is a musical inspired by the music of Elvis Presley.

Anyone who lives in Lorain County and has graduated ninth grade or is older (adults are very welcome!) are eligible to audition.

Auditions will be held at the Marion L. Steele High School Cafetorium, 450 Washington Ave., Amherst, OH.

If you have a prepared monologue, bring it to auditions.  Also have a prepared musical piece that shows your range and ability. Finally, dress for movement, as you will be expected to learn and perform a short dance number.

Rehearsals begin June 13 and normally run from 6:00 pm until 9:30 pm Monday thru Friday.  Be sure bring a list of possible conflicts.

Performances are July 21, 22, and 23, 2011.

For any last minute questions, email producer Sue Druga at RDruga@oh.rr.com.

This is not a paying gig.
